Alaska Congressman Don Young Under Fire For Endorsing Hard-Left Hawaii Democratic Congresswoman Mazie Hirono For U.S. Senate; Will He Endorse Obama Next?

Conservatives4Palin has called out Alaska Congressman Don Young on July 25th, 2012 -- and it's justified. Congressman Young has endorsed Hawaii Congresswoman Mazie Hirono in her run to replace the retiring Daniel Akaka in the U.S. Senate, and Hirono isn't merely a Democrat, but a HARD-LEFT Democrat.

The source story comes from The Hill, although CNN also has a story. Congressman Young appears in a video supporting Hirono, who has served in the U.S. House since 2007. Although he admits he doesn't see eye to eye with Hirono on some issues, he praises her for working across the aisle to protect funding for education programs for native Alaskans and Hawaiians. Here's the video:

But Hirono isn't a responsible blue-dog Democrat like her primary opponent, former Rep. Ed Case. Govtrack's sponsorship analysis shows she's so far left she damn near plays along the foul line:

VoteSmart provides more answers. Hirono's special interest ratings show 100 percent lockstep compliance with Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice America and a 0 percent rating from right-to-life groups. This will particularly irritate many Alaskans because Planned Parenthood has used the Alaska court system to undemocratically overturn parental consent and parental notification initiatives freely chosen by Alaska voters. On wildlife issues, Hirono has gotten ratings of near 100 percent from animal rights extremists and 0 percent from sportsmen's groups; she has a lifetime score of 96 percent from the League of Conservation Voters. On civil rights issues, Hirono gets a perfect 100 percent score from two leading anti-white hate groups, the NAACP and the National Council of La Raza. She only gets a 2 percent rating from Citizens Against Government Waste, and a 100 percent rating from the Brady Campaign To Prevent Gun Violence. On immigration, Hirono has earned a 0 percent rating from the Federation for American Immigration Reform and English First.

You can review Congresswoman Hirono's voting record HERE. According to a comment posted on The Hill, Republican Linda Lingle leads Hirono 47 percent to 41 percent in a recent poll of a prospective general election race between the two. Detailed reaction from all three Hawaiian candidates was published by the Hawaii Reporter.

So Don Young has climbed into bed politically with a candidate who is pro-choice, anti-gun, anti-sovereignty, and anti-white. This is so much of a deviation from his previous thinking that his electability must be called into question. But which other Republicans are available?

-- John Cox: A genuine Republican with a solid pro-America platform. Cox is getting more traction than the media reports; I've seen a few of his campaign signs sprouting in Anchorage. Cox is Joe Miller without the baggage.

-- Terre Gales: Gales ought to be protected by the Endangered Species Act since he's a conservative black Republican after the manner of Allan West and Mia Love. Gales also appears to have a solid pro-America platform.

Congressman Don Young has served Alaska faithfully and with distinction at times since he was first elected in 1973. He has earned the gratitude of Alaskans for his service. I could understand him endorsing a blue-dog Democrat like Jim Matheson (D-UT), but his illogical endorsement of a hard-left Democratic Congresswoman indicates the time for his retirement may be at hand; perhaps age is catching up to him. Several years ago, a Democratic opponent, Diane Benson, quipped "Alaska is too old to keep Young". That time may be here.

C4P records reaction from a couple of Alaskans:

This is an excellent example as to why Sarah resigned as governor of Alaska after being out of State in 2008. The good old boy gang, got it's revenge behind her back while she was campaigning in the lower 48 and undermined any chance of her being able to govern when she returned. What is reprehensible, is that the Alaskan citizens allowed the RINO's to do their dirty deeds to Sarah. Those corrupt politicians can do nothing without the help of the citizens who vote them into office.

  1. Thank you for your usual thorough work. I had seen the video but didn't know how far left Hirono is. This is shameful. Don needs to find a young conservative to take under his wing, teach him/her all he knows, and put on his fishing waders.

  2. Don "aka Donkey" Young.

A real looking burro to be used as a pack mule in the good Alaskan out back.

  3. Politics, elections, and the accompanying dancing, has always been little more than entertainment for the American boob.

  4. Senator Bernie Sanders describes himself as a democratic socialist. I like him, so this is not about condemning him or his point of view. But the term social democrat, which is common in Europe, is not much used in the US. He seems to be making a point about the specific term democratic socialist. Is that common in Europe, too, and what's the basic difference?
