A major update in the case of the shooting of Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, first discussed in this post, has been reported by Azfamily.com. In this story, Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik expresses the belief that the suspect in custody, Jared Loughner, did not act alone despite the fact that Loughner told them he did act alone. Consequently, they're seeking a second person of interest, who has been described only as a white male in his 50s. Specific Azfamily.com news video for this story embedded below:
The latest tally indicates a total of 19 people were shot. Six were killed, including a child and Federal Judge John Roll. Rep. Giffords was taken to University Medical Center in Tucson where brain surgery was performed. She is now in critical condition in the intensive care unit and has been responding to doctors' commands. Dr. Peter Rhee of UMC said he was very optimistic about Giffords' recovery, described Giffords' wound as "through and through", and said the next 24 hours would be critical. Dr. Rhee also said UMC has 10 patients from the shooting; at least five of them are in critical condition.
Investigators said they have recovered the Glock 9mm that was used in the shooting. Law-enforcement officials said that the semi-automatic pistol was legally purchased at Sportsman's Warehouse in Tucson on November 30th, 2010. And finally, hard-left progressives who were looking for a conservative scapegoat to blame seemed to have found one in Sarah Palin. Despite the fact that Palin issued an official statement of condolence on Facebook in which she wrote "My sincere condolences are offered to the family of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and the other victims of today's tragic shooting in Arizona. On behalf of Todd and my family, we all pray for the victims and their families, and for peace and justice", CBS News reports that critics of Sarah Palin are desperately attempting to draw a link between the shooting and the fact that the former Alaska governor put Giffords on a "target list" of lawmakers Palin wanted to see unseated in the midterm elections. If you read the Anchorage Daily News story about the shooting, you'll see that the comments section has been absolutely overrun by progressive anti-Palin trolls venting their hatred and bigotry with full fury; Palin supporters and other fair-minded people are wisely avoiding the rhetorical sewage. To their credit, ADN is not censoring them; instead, ADN is allowing them to put their hate on full display so that people can see what progressives really are all about.
