Unidentified Reporters At KTVA Channel 11 In Anchorage Accused Of Conspiring To Smear Alaska Senate Candidate Joe Miller

Update October 31st 1:12 P.M: KTVA Channel 11 issues "conditional apology"; updated post HERE.

On the website, P.J. Salvatore accuses unidentified KTVA Channel 11 reporters of conspiring to smear Republican Senate candidate Joe Miller. Salvatore purports to have obtained the transcript of a call recorded after KTVA called Joe Miller’s Senate campaign spokesperson Randy DeSoto. The call failed to disconnect properly, and reporters can be overheard in the background openly discussing creating and perhaps fabricating two unfavorable stories about Miller. Salvatore provides both a written transcript and an audio transcript:

Salvatore also notes that the call was later authenticated by assignment editor Nick McDermott. Blogger Thomas Lamb has also picked up the story, conferring additional credibility.

If this is true, it would be no surprise. KTVA has been running a distant second to KTUU Channel 2 in the ratings war in Anchorage, and has been unable to make any headway. So it would not surprise me if they started resorting to sleaze. Until now, Alaska Dispatch has been the only media outlet openly and flagrantly biased against Joe Miller. Maybe the rest of them are starting to come out of the closet as well.

  1. I think that the ADN's refusal to put this story in print today speaks volumes. I know for a fact that they had it in plenty of time to make the Sunday paper. But nary a peep from them today.
