Update: Alaska STAR Lotto drawing held Tuesday June 15th. The winning ticket number was 42-101140. The winner has not stepped forward to claim the $350,000 jackpot yet, so don't throw out your tickets. Full story on KTVA Channel 11.
KTUU Channel 2 reports that Abe Spicola has finally thrown in the towel and will hold the Alaska Lucky Times S.T.A.R. Lotto drawing on Tuesday June 15th, 2010 at 7:00 P.M. However, the payout will be reduced from $500,000 to $350,000. Of course, the winner will not receive the entire amount; the winner's share is expected to be approximately 70 percent, or around $245,000, based on the fact that a previous winner got $350,000 of the advertised $500,000 jackpot. A certain amount of the proceeds will be given to Standing Together Against Rape (S.T.A.R.)
Spicola was getting an increasing amount of feedback from people recommending that he put an end to this thing and go with the money he collected. In my own unscientific poll, 77 percent of respondents agreed with that idea (the raw results have been moved down towards the bottom of my right sidebar - thanks to those who participated).
To restore flagging public confidence in his operation, Abe Spicola is offering statewide refunds until 5 P.M. on the new draw date, June 15th. Visit your nearest Lucky Times Pull Tab outlet or contact the main Lucky Times Pull Tab outlet on Spenard Road in Anchorage by phone HERE for more information.
