Alaska Congressman Don Young Decries Obamacare As "Gobbledy-Gook"; Over 16,000 IRS Agents Would Be Needed To Enforce Obamacare

The Anchorage Daily News Alaska Politics blog informs us that Congressman Don Young gave a floor speech in the U.S. House, warning us of the "gobbledy-gook" contained in the 2,000 page bill. Congressman Young also mentioned that Obamacare (HR 3590) will enable 160 new grant programs, create 110 new regulatory agencies, and anoint 13 health "czars". On Sunday March 21st, the House is expected to vote on a rule governing debate. The rule says that the health care legislation the Senate passed December 24th is "deemed" passed by the House upon adoption of the rule. If the House approves the rule, it’ll next vote on the changes to that Senate bill. Read a more detailed explanation of "deem-and-pass" from Vanity Fair. Update: Michelle Malkin now reports that "deem-and-pass" is now dead.

Obamacare also includes a provision to hire as many as 16,500 new IRS agents to track your bank accounts to ensure you are paying for mandated health insurance and paying what the government deems sufficient. Specifically, according to RedState:

* IRS agents verify if you have “acceptable” health care coverage

* IRS has the authority to fine you up to $2,250 or 2 percent of your income (whichever is greater) for failure to prove that you have purchased “minimum essential coverage”

* IRS can confiscate your tax refund

* IRS audits are likely to increase

* IRS will need up to $10 billion to administer the new health care program this decade

* IRS may need to hire as many as 16,500 additional auditors, agents and other employees to investigate and collect billions in new taxes from Americans. Nearly half of all these new individual mandate taxes will be paid by Americans earning less than 300 percent of poverty ($66,150 for a family of four). There goes that less than $250,000 thing Obongo promised.

* The IRS is barred from imposing these taxes and penalties on illegal immigrants.

The Washington Post has published an excellent graphic showing how each member of the U.S. House of Representatives is leaning on Obamacare at this very moment (March 19th, 2010), along with their previous votes on November 7th, 2009. It also includes career contributions from health care interests and percentage of uninsured in each Congressional district.

On March 17th, the overall scorecard was 149 Yes, 205 No, and 77 Undecided. On March 19th, it is now 179 Yes, 207 No, and 45 Undecided. Most of the Undecideds are becoming Yes votes; the remaining Undecideds need to be targeted and urged to vote No. 216 votes are needed to pass Obamacare. On March 21st, the bill passed 219-212; final roll call vote HERE.

But Obamacare would not matter if a bunch of doctors were to choose to leave the profession as a result. A survey of 1,195 physicians commissioned by the New England Journal of Medicine indicated that, out of the 25 percent of respondents who identified as primary care physicians (defined as internal medicine and family medicine in this case), 46 percent indicated that they would leave medicine — or try to leave medicine — as a result of health reform. Of course, they would not all leave at once, but a steady exodus would begin, increasing from a trickle to a flood as the abuses of Obamacare mounted.

Wonder if Obongo would send IRS agents to doctors' offices to force them to remain in business?

  1. Don Young should be thrown in prison.

  2. For what? He hasn't committed any crimes. Just because he's under investigation doesn't mean he's guilty of anything.
