Sarah Palin has announced that she will cap her nationwide "Going Rogue" book tour in Alaska. She will be appearing at the base exchange on Elmendorf AFB from 12 Noon until 3 P.M. on Sunday December 13th. She will then fly to Fairbanks, where she will appear at the base exchange at Eielson AFB, according to her Facebook page. It has also been revealed that neither event will be open to the public, but only to those who have access to either Elmendorf, Fort Richardson, or Eielson. Palin did not ask that the general public be denied access; the respective installation commanders decided to keep the public out for security reasons.
But a good decision nonetheless. Whether the general public here in Alaska actually deserved access is debatable. Here are some of the public comments posted in response to the announcement; note that there is a hint of troop-bashing:

Said it before & I'll say it again: Partisan political figures have NO BUSINESS selling stuff (to say nothing of fundraising for a PAC, which she also does) on a DoD installation. None. Period.
One of the things that has really helped to keep the US together while other countries have fallen has been the political neutrality of the military as an institution. Generals of the Army George C. Marshall & Dwight D. Eisenhower both knew this intrinsically. Hell, Marshall didn't even vote the entire time he was on active duty because he knew damn well that he was working for WHOEVER got elected; his allegiance was to the Constitution, not to a party.
Sarah is setting a very dangerous precedent with her actions, and the commanding bozos of Bragg, Hood, and now Elmo/Rich should be fired for letting her do it.wakkawakkawakka wrote on 12/09/2009 07:58:15 PM:I'm tired of military base commanders indulging the fetishes of Sarah Palin. If she wants her jollies, let her have her husband play dress-up and leave our soldiers and airmen out of her perversions.silverhair wrote on 12/09/2009 07:41:59 PM:
Amazing. The Governor who quit on Alaska, resigned her post during the worst economic crisis in decades, then goes off to seek fame and fortune on a whirlwind bustour of "real America", is now interested in gracing Alaskans with her presence, so she can scribble her name on her book, as if Alaskans cared.
The "World According to Sarah"--I didn't say what you heard me say, or I said something different from what you think I said, or anything that has ever gone wrong in my life was always someone else's fault--is a testament to Sarah's talentless-hackery, filled with Sarah's fairy tales. Sunday's book signing perpetuates the Sarahnade charade.
And from this other ADN story, these "gems":

Alaskan resident (all year 'round) and avid reader/book signing attendee here and you couldn't PAY me to attend (despite it being closed to the general public anyways) this farce of book signing. Bailin' Palin sure has the wool pulled over the eyes of those folks in the Lower 48. It's only a matter of time because that particular house of cards falls apart, too.
This is just a sampling of the supernal refuse that ADN moderators are forced to wade through. This is why ADN found it necessary to disable comments to so many Sarah Palin stories. These are the same type of clowns who vote for cruise ship initiatives, wildlife initiatives, and gay rights ordinances. These PFD-sucking scum shouldn't even have the right to vote.
But although they're noisy, they're not the majority.
Update: Here's something interesting I just found. Sarah Palin's parents were interviewed by KSTU Channel 13 during her stop in Salt Lake City (more details of visit on Voice Of Deseret). Here's the video:
