National Tax Day Tea Party Protest In Alaska Expected To Attract Hundreds Of Alaskans In Eight Alaska Cities

Update April 15th: Report on Tea Party rallies posted HERE.

Alaska activists will be enthusiastically participating in the National Tax Day Tea Party Protests to be held nationwide on April 15th, 2009. Anchorage organizers Cameron Barrows and Keesa Labahn say they expect at least 100 people to show up at the Federal courthouse between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Cheryl Brooks, the organizer of the Wasilla protest, said she expects a turnout of several hundred at Wasilla Lake, based on the number of calls and e-mails she's received. The protest is meant to send a message that Alaskans want to stop "excessive spending, bailouts and taxation," she said. A map on Freedom Works graphically shows the national scope of this protest.

Note: Anchorage Tea Party rally being currently live-blogged on The Alaska Standard.

The Tea Party protests began in early 2009 when Rick Santelli, the On Air Editor for CNBC, set out on a rant to expose the bankrupt liberal agenda of the White House Administration and Congress, in particular the flawed stimulus bill and pork-filled budget. During his rant, he called for a “Chicago Tea Party” where advocates of the free-market system could join in a protest against out of control government spending. On February 27th, an estimated 30,000 Americans took to the street in 40+ cities accross the country in the first nationwide “Tea Party” protest.
