The Truth About Democracy: Why America Was Created To Be A Republic, Not A Democracy

Did you know that America was not intended to be a democracy? Did you know that nowhere in the U.S Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, or any of the 50 different state constitutions does the word "democracy" appear? Read this speech given by Daneen Peterson in Salt Lake City in 2006.

Here's a video I found on the Believe All Things blog that explains the Founders intent and reasoning:

Democracy is nothing more than a sham and a crutch for weak-minded people. Under pure democracy, people who know nothing about the complexities of wildlife management, cruise ship discharges, or mining operations can vote to hinder or even shut down such operations thanks to the so-called "popular initiative". Even now, the Alaska State Legislature is scrambling to correct the excesses of the infamous Cruise Ship Initiative passed in 2006. They're debating Rep. Kyle Johansen's (R-Ketchikan) HB134. And Rep. Charisse Millett is pushing HB36 to restore some sanity to the initiative process itself.

Would you want a local rabble voting on how to perform open heart surgery upon yourself?

Democracy is for losers who want to vote to take your property away from you and give it to themselves. It wrongfully subjects those who are strong in character to the misrule by those who are weak in character. That's why we are best described as a "democratic republic". The rule of law restrains the excesses of men.
