KTUU Channel 2 in Anchorage has just reported the first results in today's Alaska primary election. With 49% of the votes counted (213 out of 439 precincts), here are the numbers:
Republican Governor:
Sarah Palin - 50%
John Binkley - 31%
Frank Murkowski - 18%
Gerald Heikes - 0.25%
Merica Hlatcu - 0.19%
It's safe to say that Frank's done. It's reasonably safe to project Sarah Palin the winner.
Republican Lieutenant Governor:
Sean Parnell - 57%
Jerry Ward - 43%
It's reasonably safe to project Sean Parnell the winner.
Democratic Governor:
Tony Knowles - 73%
Eric Croft - 26%
Bruce Lemke - 1%
Tony Knowles is in. Percentages listed are of Democratic votes only.
Democratic Lieutenant Governor :
Ethan Berkowitz - 64%
Donald Olson - 18%
Betty Rollins - 13%
Kay Rollinson - 5%
Ethan Berkowitz is in. Percentages listed are of Democratic votes only.
Alaska Independence Party Governor:
Don Wright - 49%
Eddie Burke - 34%
Daniel DeNardo - 17%
How the hell is Don Wright beating Eddie Burke? Burke worked his ass off - we heard nothing from Don Wright. Percentages listed are of AIP votes only. Don Wright appears to have an insurmountable lead.
Ballot Measure One (Campaign Finance Reform):
Yes - 74%
No - 26%
Consider it adopted.
Ballot Measure Two (Cruise Ship Industry Reform):
Yes - 53%
No - 47%
This is a mild surprise. This can still be considered up in the air.
